Happy Ugadi festival to all. Ugadi is an indian festival and considered as new year day for all Hindus in some of the south states mainly for the people of Karnataka, Andhrapradesh and Telangana. Celebrated in different states in various ways with different names. People wear new clothes, decorate the houses, draw rangolis in front of the house and do pooja to the god.On the festival day we prepare Ugadi pachadi -The combination of six different tastes: Sweet, salty, bitter, tangy, spicy and sour,which indicates the different faces of life.
For sweetness we use Jaggery or sugar, tangy taste we use unripe/raw mango, bitterness we use neem leaves/flowers, salty taste we use salt, spicy taste we use red chilli powder or green chilli paste and for sour taste we use tamarind concentrate. Along with this I have added small pieces of dry fruits to enhance the taste.
On Ugadi, After worshipping god, the pachadi is the first tasty dish we eat as a tradition and later we eat obbattu/Holige/Puran poli, mango chitranna/color rice, Obbattu saaru, kosambari and many varieties of food and celebrate the festival.
The recipe to prepare pachadi is here. we can prepare the pachadi like a paste or like liquid to drink. Prepare and enjoy the tasty and healthy ugadi pachadi.

Ingredients:
Jaggery powder - 1/2cup
Tamarind concentrate - 1/4cup
Salt as per taste
Grated raw mango - 1/2 cup
Green chilli paste/finely chopped - 1 teaspoon
Neem leaves - 3-4 leaves made to small pieces (I used fenugreek powder for bitterness)
Small pieces of dry fruits -Almond, cashew nuts, raisins and walnut- 1/2cup
Method:
- Take a bowl, add all the above mentioned pachadi ingredients
- Mix well.
- Ugadi pachadi is ready for the festival.
