Ghee rice/Kushka

Ghee rice or Kushka is a South Asian origin recipe prepared using Spices, ghee and  rice. Make vegetarian or non-vegetarian kurma along with ghee rice to have a amazing lunch or dinner.
I prepared ghee rice with chicken kurma and it was very tasty. Preferably use basmati rice, if not available at home, its ok. Prepare it with whatever rice u prefer.

Serves :4 -5

Oil -2tspoons
Ghee -1/2cup
Clove -3
Cinnamon -1inch
Bay leaf -1
Cardamom -2
Long slited onion pieces -1cup
Ginger garlic paste -2tspoons
Mint leaves
Coconut milk-1cup
Green chilli -2
Rice 2cups
Water -3cups
Raisins [optional]
Salt as per taste


  1. Take a pressure cooker, Add 2 tspoons of ghee, when its hot add cashew nuts and raisins and dry roast.Transfer it to a bowl.
  2. To the same cooker add oil, when oil heats up add clove, cinnamon, bay leaf, cardamom -saute.
  3.  Add green chillies, Ginger garlic paste,onion and mint leaves-saute
  4. Add Coconut milk, salt, washed rice, ghee and water. Check the taste of water for salt.
  5. Close the lid of cooker and let it cook for 2 -3 whistles in simmer.
  6. When pressure subsides, open the lid , add cashew-nuts and raisins and mix well.
  7. Garnish with cilantro and ghee rice is done.
