A simple daily dal made with green Amaranthus and Toor dal. Serve with hot rice and ghee. This dal can be made with other greens also. This is healthy and easy recipe. its a anybody can cook recipe. I added Toor dal and moong dal but moong dal is optional but it enhances the taste.

Pressure cooker: the dal and veggies
Toor dal -2 cups
Moong dal -1 cup(optional)
Onion -1/2 cup
Spinach - 1 cup
Amaranthus Leaves - 2 cups
Methi leaves -1/2 cup
Tomatoes -3
Green chillies - 5
Tamarind - 1 small lemon size
Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
Crystal salt -1/2 tablespoon
Red chilli powder - 1 Teaspoon
Cumin powder -1 teaspoon
Coriander Powder - 1 teaspoon
Garlic - 5 cloves
Water - 5 cups
Moong dal -1 cup(optional)

Tempering the dal
Oil - 1Tablespoon
Mustard seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon
Dry red chillies -2
Curry leaves - Few
Garlic - 6
Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon
Mustard seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon
Dry red chillies -2
Curry leaves - Few
Garlic - 6
Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon
Method:
- Take the pressure cooker, wash lentils(dal) and add 5 cups of water
- Wash the greens(Spinach, Amaranthus , Fenugreek leaves)
- Add all the ingredients mentioned in the cook with dal list into the cooker.
- Close the lid and cook for 5 to 6 whistles
- When pressure subsides open the cooker lid
- If there is excess water transfer it into the bowl and Mash the dal and veggies
- Transfer the excess water drained into cooker after mashing dal
- Transfer everything into large bowl
- Tempering: when oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, garlic, dry chillies, curry leaves.
- Transfer this tempering into the dal.
- Toor dal with Amaranthus leaves is ready to serve.
- Thotakura Pappu ready
