Rice Moong Dal Kheer/Payasam

 

Rice and Moong dal make a great combination for dessert sweet pongal/payasam/kheer or spicy pongal. Today I am showing you how i prepare the Moong dal rice payasam very easily at my home.

Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Servings: Serves 6 cups



Ingredients:

Moong Dal - 1/4 cup
Rice - 1/2 cup
Jaggery -1 cup
Cardamum powder -1/4 tspoon
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Milk -1/2 cup
Water 2 cups
Raisins and Cashewnuts - for garnishing
Ghee - 1 tablespoon
Honey - For garnishing

Method:
  1. Dry roast the moong dal until the raw odor goes off and turns light golden. Transfer it to a bowl.
  2. Dry roast rice for 3 minutes and transfer it to the same bowl of Moong Dal.
  3. Wash them well.
  4. Transfer it to Pressure cooker and add 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of Milk.
  5. Let it cook for 3 whistles in medium flame.
  6. Open the pressure cooker lid when the pressure subsides.
  7. Mash a bit with the laddle.
  8. Transfer it to a cooking vessel and add 1/2 cup water, 1 cup jaggery powder, 1/2 cup grated coconut, 1/4 teaspoon of cardamum powder.
  9. Mix well and cook for sometime.
  10. Add ghee to it.
  11. Take a pan add 1 teaspoon of ghee and roast the cashewnuts and raisins.
  12. Garnish the Rice moong dal Kheer with cashewnuts, raisins and honey.
  13. The tasty Moong dal Rice Kheer or Payasam is ready to Serve.
