Rice and Moong dal make a great combination for dessert sweet pongal/payasam/kheer or spicy pongal. Today I am showing you how i prepare the Moong dal rice payasam very easily at my home.

Ingredients:
Moong Dal - 1/4 cup
Rice - 1/2 cup
Jaggery -1 cup
Cardamum powder -1/4 tspoon
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Milk -1/2 cup
Water 2 cups
Raisins and Cashewnuts - for garnishing
Ghee - 1 tablespoon
Honey - For garnishing
Method:
- Dry roast the moong dal until the raw odor goes off and turns light golden. Transfer it to a bowl.
- Dry roast rice for 3 minutes and transfer it to the same bowl of Moong Dal.
- Wash them well.
- Transfer it to Pressure cooker and add 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of Milk.
- Let it cook for 3 whistles in medium flame.
- Open the pressure cooker lid when the pressure subsides.
- Mash a bit with the laddle.
- Transfer it to a cooking vessel and add 1/2 cup water, 1 cup jaggery powder, 1/2 cup grated coconut, 1/4 teaspoon of cardamum powder.
- Mix well and cook for sometime.
- Add ghee to it.
- Take a pan add 1 teaspoon of ghee and roast the cashewnuts and raisins.
- Garnish the Rice moong dal Kheer with cashewnuts, raisins and honey.
- The tasty Moong dal Rice Kheer or Payasam is ready to Serve.
