Poddu/Guntaponganaalu

Guntaponganaalu or Poddu is famous south Indian recipe. It is prepared using Lentils and Rice soaked in water and batter is made. This batter is mixed with Onion, cilantro, carrot and green chili. It is prepared using a special type of tava called as Poddu Tava. The prepared batter is filled in this and cooked on both sides. It can be prepared using the left over dosa batter too. Very tasty breakfast. Prepare and have a tasty breakfast.


Preparation time: 45min
Serves -10

Ingredients:
For batter:
Baking soda-1/4tspoon
Salt as per taste
Rice- 250gms [washed and Soaked in water for 5-6hours]
Urad dal -50gms
Chana dal- 50gms
Puffed rice/Avalakki -2tspoons[soaked in water for just 3 minutes]
Oil

Addition into batter:
Chopped onion-1
Chopped coriander leaves-3tspoon
Finely chopped carrot- 1/2cup
Chopped green chillies-2

Method:


  1. Urad dal, chana dal can be soaked together for 5 to 6 hours and then grind to smooth paste.
  2. Grind rice and puffed rice together, along with water to get pourable consistency batter. After grinding, Mix both lentiland rice batter together, keep it in warm place overnight to get fermented. [Dont add salt and baking soda at this point] 
  3. Morning or while preparing the Poddu, add baking soda, Chopped onion, cilantro, grated or finely chopped carrot and salt. Mix well. 
  4. When Paddu/guntaponganalu making tava is hot, add 2drops of oil in each dip of tava, pour small quantity of garnished batter into the dip. Close the lid. cook it for 3 min in medium flame turn it around using a spoon, add 2drops of oil and close the lid again for 2 min. Remove the poddu/ guntaponganalu using spoon or fork.
  5. Enjoy Guntaponganalu with chutney.
