Lady's finger/Bendekaayi saaru

Bendekaayi Huli or sambar is prepared using lady's finger/bendekaayi/bindi. The vegetable is dry fried to remove the slime and then cooked in curry. It is a good combination for rice, ragi ball as well as roti. Very easy to prepare and very tasty too.

Preparation time: 30min

Lady's Finger -250gms

For Grinding:
Fresh grated coconut-1/4cup
Tamarind- little as per tanginess required
Sambar powder-1tablespoon
Salt as per taste

For Tadka:
Oil -4 tspoon
Asafoetida-1/4 tspoon
Mustard -1/4 tspoon
Cumin seeds -1/4 tspoon
Curry leaves
Boiled and mashed toor dal -1/4 cup


  1. Lady's finger is cut into 1 inch pieces and dry fried along with little quantity of salt to remove the slime.
  2. Take oil for tadka, add all ingredients mentioned under tadka in same order. Add Lady's fingers and saute for few minutes. Add grinded masala. Add required quantity of water. Cook well and its done.
