Masala vada

A very famous snack of karnataka and one of my favorite snack is Masala vada, bengaluru style.. very easy recipe but awesome and excellent tasty. Masala vada is prepared with chana dal, along with chopped onions, cilantro, ginger garlic and spices. Try this and you will definitely like it.
Preparation time: 30 min
Servings: 25 pieces of vada





Ingredients:
Chana dal -2cup [Soaked in water for atleast 5 hours ]
Green chillies -8
Ginger -1inch
Garlic- 10cloves
Clove -5
Cinnamon -1 inch
Chopped Onion-2
Chopped Coriander leaves/cilantro -2cups
Chopped Curry leaves -1/2cup
Chopped Mint leaves-1 cup
Chopped dill leaves [optional] -1 cup
Crushed garlic -3 cloves
Red chilli powder-1tspoon [optional]
Salt as per taste
Oil for Deep Frying

Method:

  1. Soak the Chana dal overnight or for 5 hours and drain the water.
  2. Take handful of chana dal and grind with garlic. green chilli, ginger, clove , cinnamon, salt to get a smooth paste. Transfer it to a big mixing bowl.
  3. Now transfer remaining amount of chana dal to the blender and make it to coarse paste. Transfer this to the same mixing bowl.
  4. Add chopped onion, dill leaves, mint leaves, cilantro, curry leaves, crushed garlic, red chilli powder. Mix all the above ingredients to get well blend mixture.
  5.  Take a lemon size of the mixture and flatten it. 
  6. Deep fry in oil until golden colour.
  7. Remove the vada and drain excess oil on tissue towel.
  8. Tasty masala vada ready to serve.
  9. The masala vada tastes awesome with red bell pepper chutney.
