Simple Tomato Rasam

Tomato  Rasam - Tomato puree is blended with spices to get a tangy flavored tasty rasam to mix with rice or to drink it as a side dish. This is very easy and can be quickly prepared.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Servings: 1 cup per serving
This will be sufficient for 10 to 12 servings





Ingredients:
Puree:
Roughly Chopped Tomatoes- 10
Tamarind-1 marble size

Tempering:
Coarsely crushed Garlic 10 -12 cloves
Chopped coriander leaves/cilantro-1/2 cup
Cumin seeds-1/2 tspoon
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspoon
Curry leaves- 4-5
Dry red chillies/Byadagi chillies -1
Red chilli powder -2 tspoons or as per spiciness required
Cumin powder-1 tspoon
Black pepper powder-1/4tspoon
Crystal Salt as per taste
Mustard seeds-1/2 tspoon
Oil -1tablespoon

Method:
  1. Take a kadai , add oil, when oil is hot add mustards seeds, cumin seeds.
  2. Add curry leaves and crushed garlic, byadagi chilli stir for a minute.
  3. Add tomato puree.
  4. Add other dry ingredients-red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, crystal salt.
  5. Add water to get desired consistency.
  6. Let is boil for 10minutes.
  7. Add coriander leaves, switch off the flame and close the lid.
  8. Let it stay for 2 minutes.
  9. Open the lid and enjoy the tasty, easy, simple and quick Rasam.
