Tomato Dal Rasam

Tomato Dal Rasam  is a tasty curry prepared to mix with rice or to drink it as a side dish too. I have prepared the Tomato dal rasam with variation to taste just like in the way they prepare in marriages.
Tomato is cooked with dal and this puree is blended with light spices to get yummy rasam just like it tastes in marraige functions.Do prepare and hope you like it

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Servings: 1 cup per serving
This will be sufficient for 10 to 12 servings

Ingredients:
Pressure cook:(cook in medium flame for 5 whistles or until cooked thoroughly)
Roughly Chopped Tomatoes- 10
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspoon
Toor dal-1 cup
Tamarind-1 marble size
Water to immerse or around 4 cups

Coarse paste:(Make paste of these in mixie or using a stone pestle mortar)
Garlic- 10 -12 medium size
Ginger-1/4 inch
Coriander leaves/cilantro-1/2 cup
Black peppercorns-5 to 6
Crystal salt as per taste
Cumin seeds-1/2 tspoon
curry leaves-2
Dry red chillies/Byadagi chillies -2

Other ingredients:
Rasam Powder -Homemade or purchased pack -2tablespoon (optional)
Red chilli powder -1tspoon or as per spiciness required
Cumin powder-1 tspoon
Crystal Salt as per taste
Asafoetida -1/4 tspoon 
Mustard seeds-1/2 tspoon
Curry leaves -5
Jaggery-1/4cup
Oil -1tablespoon

Method:
  1. Pressure cook the ingredients mentioned above and as instructed above.
  2. When the pressure subsides open the cooker and let it cool/warm.
  3. Mash the ingredients or better to grind it to puree.
  4. Make the coarse paste of the ingredients mentioned above and keep it ready.
  5. Take a cooking kadai, add oil when oil is hot add mustard seeds, Asafoetida , curry leaves and the paste prepared.
  6. Mix for 2 minutes. 
  7. Add the tomato dal puree mixture.
  8. Add the other ingredients like red chilli powder, rasam powder, cumin powder, salt, jaggery and mix well.
  9. Add water to get the consistency of your choice.
  10. Bring to boil and let boil for 5 to 8 minutes.
  11. The tasty tomato dal Rasam is ready to serve with rice and pickle
