Chicken Kurma

Chicken Kurma is a mild spicy creamy gravy or curry. It always makes the best combination with pulav, ghee rice or biryani, also it a good side dish for dosa and poori. Chicken kurma is prepared using coconut, ginger garlic and other dry spices. I had got many requests for chicken kurma from long time and here i post the recipe in detail. 

Preparation time:30min
Servings :6-8

Chicken pieces-500gms
Oil-1tablespoon or less
Turmeric powder
Chopped onion-1/2cup

For Kurma masala:
Grated fresh coconut -1cup
Green chillies -6
Cilantro/coriander leaves -1cup
Garlic -8cloves
Crushed ginger -2tspoons
Coriander powder -2tspoons
Tomato -2
Salt as per taste


  1. Grind the masala using small quantity of water to get a smooth or coarse paste.
  2. Take a deep pan, add oil, when oil is hot add onion and saute until golden. Now add chicken pieces and salt. Close the lid and cook well, if required add required quantity of water.Stir in between.
  3. Once chicken is cooked add the kurma masala and cook for few more minutes so that masala gets cooked and also flavor gets absorbed to chicken. Evaporate water to get desired consistency gravy. 
  4. The chicken kurma is ready to serve.
