Fish Curry/Meenu Saaru -My home style

Fish is liked by most of the non-vegetarians and it is one of my favorite too. We can prepare many varieties of dishes with fish as we all know. When it comes to fish curry, it is prepared with variations in different places and homes to suit their taste buds. I have already posted Andhra fish curry, Mangalore Fish curry and now its turn of my homestyle or say most of the people from bangalore does fish curry in this way. Prepare and enjoy this simple fish curry  with rice, Ragi mudde, Roti or Dosa.
The detailed recipe is given below:

Preparation time: 15min
Serves: 5-8

Ingredients:
Any Fish - a pound [Mackerel is used here] 
Chopped onion -1/2 cup
Saaru powder/Curry powder - 3 tspoons or as  required.
Chopped Coriander leaves/cilantro-small amount
Garlic -7 cloves
Ginger -1/2 inch
Tomato -1
Tamarind - 2 marble size
Garam masala -1 tspoon
Grated Coconut -1 tablespoon
Salt as per taste
Oil -1/2 table spoon
Mustard seeds -1/4 tspoon
Curry leaves -few leaves
Water 2 glasses


Method:

  1. Grind - Garlic, ginger, grated coconut, coriander leaves/cilantro, tomato,curry powder, tamarind, to make masala.
  2. Take a cooking bowl. Add 4tspoons of oil, to the hot oil add mustard seeds, curry leaves and chopped onion. saute the onion to get golden brown. 
  3. Add the masala, garam masala, water and salt -bring to boil. When masala is boiling add the cleaned pieces of fish or if it small fishes can be added as a whole. half close the lid. let the fish get cooked . it takes just around 5 to 7 minutes.
  4.  Adjust the salt as per taste. enjoy the hot  fish curry/Meenu saaru with rice, roti, chapati....
