Dry bhel

Bhel puri is the famous chat or street food in India. The bhel tastes different in different places of India, The people have modified the taste of bhel to suit the flavors of different taste buds from different places. It is prepared using puffed rice, onion, tomato and tamarind sauce. Here in this dish I am presenting the dry version of bhel puri that is Dry bhel. The easy and complete detailed recipe is given in this post.

Ingredients:

For tempering:
Murmura -200 gms
Oil -5 tspoons
Hing/Asafoetida
Red chillies- 2
Lightly Crushed garlic -20 cloves
Bengal gram -1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds
Cumin seeds
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder
Red chilli powder -2 tspoons or less
Salt as per taste

Garnishing:
Chopped onion
Chopped tomato
Chopped cilantro
Mixture

Method:

  1. Take a big mouth vessel/wok, add oil-when oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds,Asafoetida, red chillies, Garlic, curry leaves, bengal gram, turmeric powder. Saute so that garlic and bengal gram becomes lightly crisp.
  2. Add murmura, Red chilli powder, salt. Mix thoroughly well until murmura becomes crisp. Let it cool.Store it in a well closed container
  3. When you like to eat Bhel, Just transfer small amount of stored murmura into a bowl. Add chopped onion, tomato, cilantro and mixture and enjoy the dry bhel.
