Poha/Avalakki

Poha/Avalakki is a easy breakfast. It is prepared using puffed rice along with onion, green chilli, tomato and vegetables. vegetables is optional. When its very urgent to prepare breakfast you can opt for Poha as it can be prepared in just 5 min, but if we add vegetables we should spend some time in cooking the vegetables. Easy, time saving and tasty breakfast. It is much famous in North Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The detail of the recipe is described here.

Ingredients:
Puffed Rice/Gatti Avalakki - 250gms
Chopped onion-1/2 cup
Chopped Tomato -1/4 cup
Chopped coriander leaves-1tablespoon
Chopped capsicum-1/4 cup
Slit green chillies -4
Frozen green peas -1/4cup [optional]
Chopped carrot/green beans - very little quantity [optional]
Chopped potato -small quantity [optional]
Mustard -1/4tspoon
Jeera/ Cumin seeds-1/4tspoon
Curry leaves
Oil -3tspoons
Salt as per taste

Method:
  1. Take a colendar [a vessel with holes], add avalakki, wash it well under the tap for 1 minute and
    keep it aside. water will get drained and avalakki will become soft.
  2. Take a pan, add oil when oil is hot, add mustard seeds,cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chilli, onion , salt ,turmeric powder, frozen  green peas. potato, carrot, tomato and cook them well.
  3. Add avalakki/puffed rice  and  saute for 2 minutes. Garnish with cilantro. Poha will be ready to serve.
  4. A chutney or may fritters  makes a great combination to the poha
