Scrambled Fish eggs/Fish Roe/Fish Egg Bhurji


Scrambled Fish eggs/Fish eggs or Fish roe bhurji is a very tasty dish and it is very simple to prepare. It is a delicious seafood. when cooked it is having a granular structure and juicy. This recipe is similar in preparation as like Egg bhurji but Taste of Fish egg bhurji is very different. Do try this recipe when you find Fish eggs in seafood market.
Preparation time: 40 minutes
Servings: 1 cup per serving

Fish Eggs- 250 grams 
Oil- 3 tbspoon 
Cumin seeds-1/4 tspoon
Finely Chopped Onions-1 bowl
Finely chopped tomatoes- 1/2 cup
Finely chopped green chilli- 1 tspoon
Ginger Garlic paste-1 tspoon
Garam masala-1 tspoon
Salt as per taste
Turmeric powder -1/4 tspoon (optional)
Curry leaves -6 leaves
Red chilli powder -1 tablespoon
Chopped coriander leaves -1/4 cup


  1. Clean fish eggs/Roe in water slowly without disturbing its membrane.
  2. Add some salt and keep for few minutes and give a clean wash.
  3. Transfer to a large bowl, a little bit of salt and water to immerse fish eggs.
  4. Half cook the eggs or bring it to boil for 4 to 5 minutes(I usually do like this to avoid the fish odor and its not good to eat uncooked fish eggs) .Drain the water completely using any filter or on a cotton cloth.
  5. In a pan, heat oil and fry cumin seeds,chopped onions, green chillies and ginger garlic paste. Give a nice stir.
  6. Sprinkle turmeric powder, add curry leaves and salt.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes and give a nice stir.
  8. Add Red chilli powder and garam Masala. Mix well.
  9. Add half cooked fish eggs and Saute gently on a low flame. If we cook egg in high flame it will get burnt or stick to the bottom of pan and get charred.
  10. Let the fish eggs cook well, if required add or sprinkle water when it is required.
  11. Add coriander leaves, mix well.
  12. Fish Egg Bhurji will be a very good combination with roti or chapathi, or along with rice and rasam.
