Dal Makhani or Dal Makhni is a popular dish from Punjab,India.It makes a rich meal. Main ingredients are red kidney beans, whole black lentil, butter, creams and spices. I prepared it recently and it was yummy. Its a rich vegetarian dish which makes a good accompaniment with rice, rotis, naans and parathas.

Ingredients:
Whole black urad lentil -3/4 cup
Red kidney beans -1/4cup
Chopped onion -1 cup or less
Chopped tomatoes-2 cups or less
Chopped cilantro
Cumin powder-1/2tspoon
Cumin seeds-1/2tspoon
Kasuri methi powder-1/2tspoon
Garlic -9 cloves [paste/finely chopped]
Ginger-1 inch [paste/finely chopped]
Garam masala -1.5tspoon
Red chilli powder- 1 tspoon or more or less
Fresh cream -1/2cup
Butter -2 -3 tablespoons
Oil -2 tspoons
Salt as per taste
Method:
Preparation time: 2 hours

Kasuri methi powder-1/2tspoon
Garlic -9 cloves [paste/finely chopped]
Ginger-1 inch [paste/finely chopped]
Garam masala -1.5tspoon
Red chilli powder- 1 tspoon or more or less
Fresh cream -1/2cup
Butter -2 -3 tablespoons
Oil -2 tspoons
Salt as per taste
Method:
- Soak black urad and red kidney beans overnight
- Cook them in 4 cups of water by adding salt
- Heat butter and oil in a cooking pan, add cumin seeds and let it crackle
- Now add chopped onion and fry it until it is golden color
- Add tomato, ginger and garlic. Allow it to cook until tomato becomes mashable.
- Now add only boiled urad dal and red kidney beans and not the stew.
- Mash the dals using a wooden laddle.
- Stir continuously and you could see there is creamy texture,
- Add the stew[water in which dal is cooked].
- Add Kasuri methi powder, garam masala, cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder.
- Cook in simmer for 15 minutes
- Add fresh cream mix well and cook for 4-5 more minutes.
- Sprinkle coriander leaves and dal makhani is ready to serve with rice, naan, roti or paratha.
