Chicken Kolhapuri

Chicken kolhapuri is a dish originated from a place called kolhapur of Maharashtra. The recipe is prepared using coconut, whole spices, lime juice, onions and tomatoes. If we can observe we use almost same ingredients to prepare chicken dishes, but the taste will be different because the preparation techniques will be different and that is why we get different taste from different chicken recipes. Ingredients:
Chicken pieces -1/2kg 
Salt as per taste
Redchilli powder as of spiciness [extra]
Lemon juice
Chopped cilantro
Finely chopped onion- 1cup
Finely chopped tomato -1/2cup
Turmeric powder-1/4tspoon
Oil -1tablespoon

For masala:
Dry coconut-1cup
cumin seeds-1/2tspoon
Cardamom -1
Clove -2
cinnamon-1/4inch
Sesame seeds -1tspoon
Poppy seeds-1tspoon
Rosted Cashewnuts-10 [optional]
Red chilli powder-2tspoons
Water

Method:

  1. In deep pan, dry roast the ingredients in this order:grated dry coconut saute for 2 minutes and then add cumin seeds, cinnamon, clove, green cardamom saute for another 4 minutes,Add sesame seeds, poppy seeds.Now transfer this to a mixie jar once it cools down.
  2. Grind the ingredients in the mixie jar add very little quantity of water, roasted cashew-nuts, redchilli powder and salt to get a smooth paste. Once its done add this masala to chicken pieces and marinate it for 20-30minutes.
  3. Take a pan, add oil. when its hot add finely chopped onion and fry it until golden brown. Now add ginger garlic paste, extra Red chilli powder, finely chopped tomato and turmeric powder. saute well for few minutes and add the marinated chicken.
  4. After adding marinated chicken saute for few minutes and add 1-2 cups of  water. close the lid and cook well.
  5. Garnish with chopped cilantro and lemon juice.
