Dal Palak

Dal palak is the recipe requested by people from long time and here it is. Easiest curry for a quick dinner. Dal is prepared in variety of ways in different houses. This is very famous dish in India. The Dal palak is prepared with toor dal and palak cooked well and blended.The details of recipe is described here.It is one of the great combination for rice.

Servings: 4 -5

Toor dal - 1cup
Tomato -1
Green chillis -2
Tamarind - a marble size or less
Water 3cups

Oil -1/2tablespoon
Urad dal -1/2tspoon [optional]
Chana dal -1/4tspoon[optional]
Mustard seeds
Jeera/cumin seeds
Asafoetida -pinch
Curry leaves
Broken Red chilli -1[optional]
Crushed garlic -4cloves
Chopped Organic Palak/Spinach -2cups
Turmeric powder- 1/4tspoon
Red chilli powder as per spiciness required
Jeera powder -1/4tspoon
Salt as per taste

  1. Add the dal, tomato, green chilli, tamarind and water in cooker. cook for around 4-5 whistles. Remove the lid once the pressure subsides. Mash the dal.
  2. Take a kadai, add oil. When the oil is hot add the tempering ingredients one by one and saute in between. Let the palak/Spinach cook well.
  3. Now add the mashed dal and required amount of water to get desired consistency.
  4. Dal palak is ready to serve.
