Shavigey Uppittu/Semiya Upma

Shavigey upittu is prepared with Vermicelli Semiya, onion , green chillis ,tomato and light spices. This also falls in category of a very quick breakfast and kids loves it too.We can prepare this breakfast in just 10 minutes. The recipe details is given below
Preparation time: 10 min
Servings -3 plates




Ingredients:
Vermicelli/Semiya -1 cup
Water -2 to 2.5 cups
Chopped onion-1/4 cup
Chopped tomato -1/4 cup
Curry leaves
Ginger garlic crushed -1/2 tspoon[optional]
Chopped cilantro -2 tspoons
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Chopped Green chillis-3
Chopped Potato- 1/4 cup [optional]
Frozen Indian green peas -1/4 cup[ optional]
Salt as per taste
Oil -1/4 tablespoon

Method:

  1. Dry roast the vermicelli/semiya in a dry pan for few minutes and transfer to a bowl.
  2. In the same pan, add oil, when oil is hot - add mustard, curry leaves, green chilli, onion, potato,green peas and tomatoes.Saute well to cook all the ingredients added.
  3. Note: we can also add chopped potato and green peas. If they are included in the recipe, add some quantity of water so the green peas and potato cooks quickly
  4. Add crushed garlic and ginger , required amount of salt and mix well. Now add the 2.5cups of water and bring to boil.
  5. Add vermicelli/semiya, Mix well and close the lid.
  6. In simmer, Cook for 2 min and switch of the flame. Leave it for few minutes so that upma sets properly. Garnish with coriander leaves.
